SUMMARY:Lexington Center Diwali Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:A Special Illumination of the DEPOT BUILDING at EMERY PARK tonight at 8:00 PM\, presented by Youth STEAM Initiative.\nDiwali is a Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness\, good over evil\, and knowledge over ignorance”. \nDuring Diwali\, people illuminate their homes\, shops\, temples\, and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps)\, candles\, and lanterns. Diwali marks a major shopping festival in India and is comparable to the Christmas period in terms of consumer purchases and economic activity. It is traditionally a time when families purchase new clothing\, home goods\, gifts\, gold\, jewelry\, and other large purchases particularly as the festival is dedicated to Lakshmi\, the goddess of wealth and prosperity\, and such purchases are considered auspicious. \nThis year\, Lexington Together\, the Lexington Economic Development Office\, and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Diwali “Festival of Lights” Celebration to support retailers and restaurants in Lexington.
