DESCRIPTION:Join LexSeeHer for America’s 250th! The event runs from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm and includes the Reenactment of Anna Harrington’s 1769 Spinning Protest at 11:00 a.m.\, followed immediately by the formal ceremony honoring the LexSeeHer 2026 Women’s Visibility Banner Honorees. Throughout the event\, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.\, everyone is invited to join the Stitch-A-Thon. Share supplies from LexSeeHer\, or bring your own as we collectively share many forms of stitching to pay tribute to the importance of textiles in America’s history. Anna and 45 “Ladies” spun their own yarn as an act of defiance against the King\, refusing to pay unwelcome taxes. Whether as a form of resistance\, to meet practical needs of survival\, to express ourselves\, or to communicate\, textiles have played a critical role in America’s history. We will see if our efforts on August 29 match the yardage of the 1769 women and girls who helped change the trajectory of our lives.

People often create new ideas by recognizing patterns in past experiences and applying them in new situations. Modern AI systems attempt something similar\, but they still struggle to produce stories and ideas with the depth\, flexibility\, and originality of human creativity. \nUsing familiar examples\, Dr. Wang will discuss how AI retrieves information\, makes analogies\, and generates new content. He will also explore why AI-generated writing can sometimes feel repetitive or flat\, and how future AI systems and agents might become more thoughtful\, creative\, and useful. \nNo technical background is required. The talk is intended for anyone interested in how AI works and how it may shape the future of human creativity. \nAttendance is on a first-come basis. Registering below allows us to plan for headcount and keep you updated in case of any changes. \nAbout our speaker: \nHaixun Wang is an ACM Fellow\, IEEE Fellow\, Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Data Engineering Bulletin\, a trustee on the board of VLDB\, and an affiliate professor at the University of Washington. He is currently the VP of Engineering and Head of AI at EvenUp\, where he focuses on leveraging LLMs and generative AI for legal and medical document understanding and generation\, building Copilot-like support for lawyers\, and advancing litigation workflows. Prior to EvenUp\, he held leadership roles in AI\, applied science\, NLP\, and knowledge bases at Instacart\, WeWork\, Amazon\, and Meta. Before that\, he was a researcher in the labs of Microsoft\, Google\, and IBM. Dr. Wang has published over 200 research papers in top international journals and conference proceedings. His work has been recognized with several prestigious awards\, including the 10-Year ICDE Influential Paper Award (2024)\, the ICDE Best Paper Award (2015)\, the ICDM 10-Year Best Paper Award (2013)\, and the Best Paper Award at ER (2009). \nPresented in partnership with the Youth STEAM Initiative (YSI ) and UMass Boston. \nYSI is a nonprofit organization 5013c founded by Wei Ding during the Covid pandemic to provide free mentorship to students and free computational and arts services to our local communities. \nThis program is made possible by the generous donors to the Cary Library Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:“Lexington has heroes in every century\, as change-seekers have made their mark on the town. Through building community\, working for social change\, pioneering in their fields\, and pursuing creative passions\, Leading Lexingtonians keep Lexington on the map as a historic place. This lecture series highlights their accomplishments\, which are also displayed on a rotating basis in the Lexington Depot Museum. \nAlan Dawson was an extraordinary jazz drummer\, percussionist\, and teacher who inspired countless students to pursue professional music and instruction. His accomplishments were many: He played with the Army Dance Band at Fort Dix during the Korean War. He taught at Berklee College of Music\, and offered private lessons in his own home. His drumming was featured on albums with artists such as Quincy Jones\, Clifford Brown\, Dexter Gordon\, and Dave Brubeck. He formed his own band\, the Alan Dawson Quartet\, and had a posthumous album\, Waltzin’ with Flo\, released in 2000. Most importantly\, his teaching methods are still being used today by his students who continue to lift up the next generation of jazz musicians. \nJoin us as we welcome family\, former students\, and music enthusiasts to honor Dawson’s legacy in Lexington. Enjoy live music from Chris Neville\, Ron Mahdi\, and John Ramsay\, followed by an interactive celebration of Dawson’s career led by Dawson’s daughter Deborah Mullins and student Mike Powers. DESCRIPTION:Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse Concerts is thrilled to kick off its 5th season with the terrific Ari Hest. Hest has crafted a unique path in music – independently building a loyal following through relentless college touring\, then on to major label albums\, and then reimagining listener engagement through fan-driven projects like “52” and his Patreon-powered “The Treehouse Project”.\nA Grammy nominated singer/songwriter(best folk album\, 2017) who began his career two decades ago\, he’s performed both in the U.S. and abroad with artists like The Indigo Girls\, Martin Sexton\, Judy Collins and Suzanne Vega. Many of Ari’s songs have appeared on TV and film – The Path\, The Lincoln Lawyer\, Private Practice\, Army Wives\, and One Tree Hill to name a few.\nAri’s newest endeavor\, The Treehouse Project\, has him writing\, recording and releasing a song on his Patreon every two weeks since early 2022. Based on the votes of his subscribers\, he remixes the 10 favorite songs from each year and releases an album. The project is currently in its fourth year and is approaching 100 original songs.\nOur concerts are still just $25 (plus ticketing fees) and have\, as always\, a “pay what you can” feature so that everyone can enjoy live music!

Shari will guide guests through the respectful and ethical practices of paranormal investigation\, demonstrate specialized equipment used to attempt communication\, and lead small groups through the historic museum for a hands-on investigative experience. \nMunroe Tavern was overtaken by British soldiers in the aftermath of the Battle of Lexington. For hours\, the home was used as a crude hospital tending to the dead and dying. Generations of family shared the stories of the chaos left behind\, and the neighbor fatally shot trying to escape the house. Currently\, it holds our archives and thousands of years of Lexington’s story. In a setting so deeply rooted in history\, one can’t help but wonder what stories may still linger within those walls. \nSpace is limited to ensure a personal and engaging experience. DESCRIPTION:Blending bluegrass\, folk\, and close three-part harmony\, this trio pairs virtuosic musicianship with fearless storytelling\nBlending bluegrass\, folk\, and close three-part harmony\, the trio pairs virtuosic musicianship with fearless storytelling\, creating concerts that are as entertaining as they are thought-provoking. \nTheir songs wander through labor history\, folklore\, the American West\, and the lives of women history has too often overlooked. Again and again\, they hold the past up like a mirror\, asking what it still has to teach us today. They won the 2025 Telluride Bluegrass Band Contest\, and Sumner is also a winner of the Kerrville New Folk Competition. She has performed at the Library of Congress\, where five of her original songs are preserved in the American Folklife Center archives\, and her songwriting has been recognized by the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. \nTouring nationally\, Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light has appeared everywhere from Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival\, and Earl Scruggs Music Festival to beloved listening rooms like Caffè Lena\, Club Passim\, and Sweetwater Music Hall. Whether on a festival stage or in a backyard house concert\, the trio brings the same joyful musicianship\, effortless chemistry\, and spirit of discovery to every room. Audiences leave laughing\, singing\, and carrying the stories with them long after the drive home. \nOur concerts are still just $25 (plus ticketing fees) and have\, as always\, a “pay what you can” feature so that everyone can enjoy live music!
