DESCRIPTION:Come Sing With Lexington Pops Chorus in its 45th Season! \nLexington Pops Chorus will hold two free open rehearsals September 8th and 15th at 7:30 p.m. in Clark Hall at Hancock Church\, 1912 Massachusetts Ave. Lexington. We invite new singers to join us in September and January\, and we especially welcome new tenors. Auditions are not required\, but singers must be able to read music. We sing a wide variety of music\, including classical\, jazz\, blues\, folk\, gospel\, Broadway and more. \nOur winter concerts scheduled for Friday evening\, January 15th\, and Sunday afternoon\, January 17th\, 2027\, will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D (BWV 243)\, A Gershwin Portrait\, “Satin Doll”\, “Lift Every Voice and Sing”\, and other selections. Our spring concerts will be on Friday evening\, May 21st\, and Sunday afternoon\, May 23rd\, 2027. We often have guest soloists and additional instrumentalists at our concerts. \nLexington Pops Chorus is in its 45th season and enjoys the enthusiasm of singers from over 20 towns. DESCRIPTION:“Lexington has heroes in every century\, as change-seekers have made their mark on the town. Through building community\, working for social change\, pioneering in their fields\, and pursuing creative passions\, Leading Lexingtonians keep Lexington on the map as a historic place. This lecture series highlights their accomplishments\, which are also displayed on a rotating basis in the Lexington Depot Museum. \nAlan Dawson was an extraordinary jazz drummer\, percussionist\, and teacher who inspired countless students to pursue professional music and instruction. His accomplishments were many: He played with the Army Dance Band at Fort Dix during the Korean War. He taught at Berklee College of Music\, and offered private lessons in his own home. His drumming was featured on albums with artists such as Quincy Jones\, Clifford Brown\, Dexter Gordon\, and Dave Brubeck. He formed his own band\, the Alan Dawson Quartet\, and had a posthumous album\, Waltzin’ with Flo\, released in 2000. Most importantly\, his teaching methods are still being used today by his students who continue to lift up the next generation of jazz musicians. \nJoin us as we welcome family\, former students\, and music enthusiasts to honor Dawson’s legacy in Lexington. Enjoy live music from Chris Neville\, Ron Mahdi\, and John Ramsay\, followed by an interactive celebration of Dawson’s career led by Dawson’s daughter Deborah Mullins and student Mike Powers. In this class\, you will learn to make delicious chicken bibimbap\, a rice bowl with chicken\, seasoned spinach\, cucumber salad\, kimchi\, egg\, and delicious kimbap sauce. We’ll also make Korean Japchae\, sweet potato noodles stir-fried with vegetables. We’ll finish the class with delicious poached pears with ginger. \nClass Menu:\n– Chicken Bibimbap\n– Korean Japchae\n– Poached Pears with ginger \nAbout Ploy’s Kitchen: \nPloy Khunisorn is a native of Thailand with a passion for culinary education\, global cuisine\, and food culture. She began her culinary journey at Suan Dusit International Culinary School while working as a financial analyst in Bangkok. After moving to the United States\, she earned a Master of Liberal Arts in Sustainability from Harvard University\, a Master of Education from Cambridge College\, and a Master of Arts in Gastronomy from Boston University. \nPloy has been teaching cooking and baking since 2014 and\, over more than 12 years of teaching experience\, has taught more than 15\,000 students. Her extensive travels to more than 60 countries have shaped her culinary perspective and deepened her knowledge of cuisines and food traditions from around the world. \nHer additional culinary training includes a Certificate in Plant-Based Patisserie from Le Cordon Bleu\, and she is also a certified Tea Master. Hest has crafted a unique path in music – independently building a loyal following through relentless college touring\, then on to major label albums\, and then reimagining listener engagement through fan-driven projects like “52” and his Patreon-powered “The Treehouse Project”.\nA Grammy nominated singer/songwriter(best folk album\, 2017) who began his career two decades ago\, he’s performed both in the U.S. and abroad with artists like The Indigo Girls\, Martin Sexton\, Judy Collins and Suzanne Vega. Many of Ari’s songs have appeared on TV and film – The Path\, The Lincoln Lawyer\, Private Practice\, Army Wives\, and One Tree Hill to name a few.\nAri’s newest endeavor\, The Treehouse Project\, has him writing\, recording and releasing a song on his Patreon every two weeks since early 2022. Based on the votes of his subscribers\, he remixes the 10 favorite songs from each year and releases an album. For hours\, the home was used as a crude hospital tending to the dead and dying. Currently\, it holds our archives and thousands of years of Lexington’s story. We’re thrilled to bring him back for a solo show in this\, our 5th season. \nReggie Harris is a singer-songwriter\, storyteller and world-renowned song-leader who is a powerful interpreter of the global music narrative. A passionate\, engaging inspirational entertainer and concert artist Reggie is recognized for focusing new energy on the important role of music in the discourse for inclusion and the struggle for human rights using the lessons of history as a base. As an expert on the music of the Underground Railroad and the Modern Civil Rights Movement he is at home on stage as performer\, lecturer or leading discussion in seminars or in the classroom. Known for over 40 years as one-half of the eminently prominent duo\, Kim & Reggie Harris\, Reggie continues to criss-cross the country\, carrying the message of joy\, unity\, tolerance and peace through the powerful medium of live music. Reggie remains in high demand for concerts\, schools\, University residencies\, community-building\, festivals and teaching workshops.
