SUMMARY:COMING TO AMERICA concert
DESCRIPTION:COMING TO AMERICA\nSATURDAY\, APRIL 26\, 2025 | 7:30PM\nPRE-CONCERT CONDUCTOR’S TALK AT 6:30PM\nSponsored by Kip Connor & Linh Vong. Pipa soloist is sponsored by Bin Wu and Family in recognition of the Chinese American Association of Lexington. \nHewitt | The Battle of Trenton\nWu\, Wang\, Liu | Little Sisters of the Prairie\nWu\, Liu | Spring River Flowers and Moonlight Night\n-Cao Yue\, pipa\nDecruck | Symphonie Orientale\nÓ Riada | Mise Éire \nOur season finale opens with James Hewitt’s The Battle of Trenton and explores the attitudes\, mistakes and reasons people emigrated to America. Those stories are represented through the music immigrants brought with them\, enriching our nation despite the challenges they faced. While the stories are as varied as was America’s attitude toward immigrants\, these stories are important because all those who came to America looked for a new beginning and hope for the future — which has been America’s promise.

SUMMARY:Reenactment of Paul Revere's 1775 Midnight Ride
DESCRIPTION:It’s 1775 in Colonial Massachusetts\, and tensions between American colonists and the British Regular army are higher than ever. Displeased by their taxation without representation in the British parliament and what they see as unjustified actions\, a group of passionate colonists called the “Sons of Liberty” began their own local government called the “Massachusetts Provincial Congress”.  Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride was a historic event that took place on April 18\, 1775\, when Paul Revere rode to warn the colonial militia of British troop movements. The ride helped lead to the battles of Lexington and Concord.

SUMMARY:Lexington Alarm Letter on View
DESCRIPTION:Couriers delivered the news of the conflict at Lexington soon after the event. One of the letters that helped spread the news will be displayed at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library in April. Joseph Palmer\, a member of the Massachusetts Committee of Safety\, sent the first urgent missive by messenger Israel or Isaac Bissell in the late morning of April 19\, 1775. Bissell rode to Connecticut and perhaps further. Recipients duplicated Palmer’s letter several times to carry the news far and wide. An online exhibition about the Alarm Letter can be viewed at https://bit.ly/3LNwFri. \nThe museum’s copy of the Lexington Alarm Letter will be displayed alongside a broadside from John Hancock\, issued on April 15\, 1775. The documents will be on view from April 7 – April 26\, 2025. \nThe museum is open 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday\, plus Saturday\, April 19 and 26\, 2025. \nMuseum website: https://www.srmml.org/

A formative period of study in Florence\, Italy\, further influenced her creative journey. \nChang creates bold\, colorful paintings that explore energy\, movement\, and emotion\, bridging the gap between abstraction and landscape. Her work invites viewers into immersive spaces of color and form\, drawing inspiration from both personal experiences and the natural world. \nIn addition to her studio practice\, Chang is a dedicated art educator\, inspiring high school students and leading weekend workshops and artist retreats to empower others to explore their artistic voice. SUMMARY:Coming to America: with Jonathan McPhee
DESCRIPTION:The history of immigration to the United States has been complex and\, at times\, brutal. Our country has welcomed immigrants and\, at other times\, excluded certain people as the new American culture has developed. Today\, we often describe the United States as a melting pot\, but that has been contentious. The United States is a unique experiment. What is different about our country as opposed to others with a multicultural population? With the international common language of music as a guide to our history\, what can we discover about ourselves? \nLexington Symphony’s Music Director Jonathan McPhee has conducted orchestras all over the world from South America to Europe\, and China. What he brings to Lexington with the Lexington Symphony is great music that––during this period of reflection on the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution––illustrates the cultural richness immigrants have infused into our communities and society. \nAttendance is on a first-come basis. SUMMARY:Alarmed In Lexington
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to experience the anxious hours before the start of the American Revolution. It’s past midnight on April 19th\, 1775\, and Paul Revere has just left the home of Lexington’s minister\, Jonas Clarke\, with news of an impending British attack. This leaves the home’s occupants to take in the news and prepare for what is to come. In a series of three short plays by playwright Debbie Wiess\, see how John Hancock and Samuel Adams\, leaders of the Revolution\, Dorothy Quincy and Lydia Hancock\, John’s family\, and Jonas and Lucy Clarke\, town leaders\, process the impending crisis as they prepare for war in the very rooms in which these conversations took place two hundred and fifty years ago. \nThis program is funded in part by Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing and Heating\, and by a grant from the Lexington Council for the Arts\, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency. \n$20 members\, $25 nonmembers
