This concert features Mozart’s “Missa brevis in F”\, selections from “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”\, Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure On This Shining Night”\, Kirby Shaw’s “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”\, “Almighty Father” and “Make Our Garden Grow”\, both by Leonard Bernstein\, and much more!\nConcert tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. SUMMARY:Reading Into History: Book Chat on The Chinese Question by Mae Ngai
DESCRIPTION:The Gold Rush of 1849 brought scores of the hopeful to California\, both to mine the hills for treasure\, and to build the railroads that would connect the newly wealthy frontier to the rest of the country. Chinese immigrants made up a massive part of this labor force. As they entered the US and the rest of the western workforce in record numbers\, however\, cultural clashes and racism lead to “the Chinese question”: should western countries allow Chinese immigration at all? In 1882\, the United States decided the answer was “no” with the Chinese Exclusion Act. \nJoin us for a discussion of this sweeping history with a Mae Ngai\, who follows Chinese labor across five continents to show the connection between world economics and racism. \n$10 members\, $15 members \nDoors open at 6:30; refreshments will be served.

SUMMARY:Sunrise Youth Parade
DESCRIPTION:The early morning parade goes back to the late 1880s. “Until the end of the century\, the celebration included Sunday evening services in Town Hall\, historic lectures delivered by scholars\, a children’s program\, an early morning parade\, and band concerts.”     I recall the marching in the parade when I was a student in the Lexington Public Schools First with the Girl Scouts and then with the Middle school and High School Bands.  There use to be a much larger turn out and we are trying to bring that back and reignite more Town Spirit.    Line up will be at 7:15 am with step off at 7:30 am and the ceremony beginning at 8:00 am.\nThis parade\, which kicks off at 7:30am\, includes Lexington civic organizations with a special emphasis on youth.  Think Boy Scouts\, Girl Scouts\, Cubs\, Brownies\, IAL\, CAAL and many others.  We also have guests of honor\, award recipients Lex Minute Men and LHS band participate.\nThe Sunrise Youth Parade ends on the Battle Green for the Patriots’ Day Ceremony and the parade participants are all the participants in the Ceremony.
