SUMMARY:Lexington Legacy 5K Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Lexington Legacy 5k run/walk will be held this year on Small Business Saturday\, November 29th at 9am.In 2008\, the Lexington High School Cross Country / Track & Field program hosted its first annual “Alumni Race” on the same\, nearly all-road course the team has called home since 1970. Over the last 17 years\, with the support of athletes\, coaches\, and parent volunteers our tradition has grown into an event that allows us to share the sport we love with the larger community. All proceeds will go to support the LHS Cross Country / Track & Field team. The course offers a very spectator friendly layout. Spectators can view participants at the start\, then walk no more than 400 meters to the one-mile mark. Participants loop back to that exact location just after the two-mile mark. Spectators can then walk back to Lincoln Field to catch participants as they finish.

SUMMARY:Mine Be the Lips: A Concert of Songs by Women Composers Past & Present
DESCRIPTION:Mine Be The Lips features Vira Slywotzky\, an amazing contralto and Cambridge-native\, and pianist David Sytkowski. Through song and spoken word\, they amplify women’s voices in the fight for freedom through time across the globe\, including the United States and other countries. \nThis carefully curated program\, which has been performed in Paris\, France and New York City\, celebrates freedom and the diverse output of female composers of the past who have been overlooked and under-programmed because of their gender and the works of innovative female composers of the present. The songs have been selected both for their beauty and for their power to transport listeners. It features music and words by Maria Szymanowska\, Silvia Filus\, Poldowski\, Amy Beach\, Stefania Turkewich\, Sheila Silver\, Vivian Fung\, Lori Laitman\, Emily Dickinson\, and others. The cabaret-style program will feature American\, Chinese\, French\, Persian\, and Ukrainian songs. \nPresented by Vira + Friends\, co-presented by Lexington Music School and LexSeeHer. Supported in part by a grant from the Lexington Council for the Arts\, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, a state agency. Additional support provided by Artwine\, Bear Witness and CAAL. \nAbout Vira + Friends\nVira + Friends was founded in May 2018 with the intent of bringing people together to enjoy the live performance of music written for voice and piano. Since that time\, the musical celebration has become a multiform concert series with the expanded missions of developing audiences for classical music and providing a platform for composers traditionally neglected by the Western canon. Vira + Friends thrives on partnering with organizations such as the Billion Oyster Project and Razom for Ukraine\, promoting their work and fundraising for them through themed concerts. Two exciting developments of the past year include the launch of a long term international project presenting the works of women composers past and present and the formation of the Ukrainian Music Initiative. Vira + Friends is a nonprofit corporation under the auspices of the Ukrainian American Educational Center of Boston\, a 501(c)(3).

SUMMARY:Lexington Center Diwali Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:A Special Illumination of the DEPOT BUILDING at EMERY PARK tonight at 8:00 PM\, presented by Youth STEAM Initiative.\nDiwali is a Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness\, good over evil\, and knowledge over ignorance”. \nDuring Diwali\, people illuminate their homes\, shops\, temples\, and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps)\, candles\, and lanterns. Diwali marks a major shopping festival in India and is comparable to the Christmas period in terms of consumer purchases and economic activity. It is traditionally a time when families purchase new clothing\, home goods\, gifts\, gold\, jewelry\, and other large purchases particularly as the festival is dedicated to Lakshmi\, the goddess of wealth and prosperity\, and such purchases are considered auspicious. \nThis year\, Lexington Together\, the Lexington Economic Development Office\, and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Diwali “Festival of Lights” Celebration to support retailers and restaurants in Lexington. Please join the celebrations on October 15th\, Wednesday between 5 and 9 pm by taking a stroll of the shops in the Center to look at the decorations and a photo booth at 1666 Mass Ave for a special Diwali selfie. \n#lexingtonDiwali2025 \n#LexingtonFestivaloflights \n#VisitLexington \n  \nWEDNESDAY\, OCTOBER 15\, 2025 5:00-9:00 PM | 1666 MASS AVE. \nJoin us for a fun filled time of games\, crafts\, music\, and a buffet dinner at Clay Oven Restaurant (Reserve your dinner spot at https://clayovenlexington.com. Click on Events!) \nThis Diwali\, let the spirit of light guide us to support local businesses\, so our celebrations brighten not just our homes but our community’s prosperity. \nPresented by Indian Americans of Lexington (IAL)\, Lexington Economic Development Office\, Lexington Chamber of Commerce\, Lexington Retailers Association\, Clay Oven\, and Spaulding Management LLC. \nPlease come with an electric lantern or a diya for a special photo this Diwali.
