SUMMARY:Katie Dahl performs at Harmony on the Green coffeehouse Nov. 16th at 7:30
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are now on sale for our next Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse show featuring award winning singer/songwriter Katie Dahl. Clear-eyed and tough-minded\, songwriter/playwright Katie Dahl is known for her smart songs\, wry wit\, and wise spirit. A small-town celebrity on the Wisconsin peninsula where her family has lived for 175 years\, Katie is also an internationally touring\, radio-charting artist who “delivers razor-sharp lyrics with a hearty\, soulful voice” (American Songwriter). In live shows that are both courageously honest and devilishly funny\, Katie dives deep into questions of land and love\, family and body image\, grief and joy. “In unsettled times\,” says Peter Mulvey\, “Katie Dahl brings us a grounded spirit.” \nKatie’s five albums of original songs showcase her creamy alto\, abiding love of the land\, and trademark humor\, as well as her unflinching vulnerability. Her recent work finds her exploring deeper territory than ever before\, from anxiety to body image to the challenges of growing up queer in an evangelical church. Richly steeped in the American songwriting tradition\, Katie navigates the muddy waters between the personal\, public\, and political with tenderness and dexterity. \nIn 2024\, Katie was named a Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Finalist\, as well as “Most Wanted to Return” at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes\, “Katie Dahl . . . combine[s] old-fashioned populism\, an abiding love of the land and wickedly smart love songs\, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto.” \nOpening for Katie is local singer/songwriter/fiddler Micah John\, who appeared as a guest with Antje Duvekot during our last season. Micah’s an award winning fiddler and a terrific songwriter. Micah A. John is a Boston-based multi-instrumentalist\, vocalist\, and singer-songwriter. She plays American Roots Music of several types\, including Old Time songs and tunes\, Bluegrass\, Folk\, Country\, and Americana. \nAs a 3-year-old\, Micah saw Jake Armerding play fiddle at Club Passim and was determined that she was going to learn to play the fiddle someday. Micah has competed and placed in several competitions. In 2024\, at the virtual Deer Creek Fiddlers Convention Contest\, she won the Open Vocal division and won the Open Fiddle division. Locally\, at the Lowell Banjo & Fiddle Contest she has placed in Twin Fiddle (1st in 2022 with Lillian Chase\, and 1st in 2021 with Rosalie Coleman)\, in Old Time Fiddle (2nd in 2022\, and 3rd in 2021)\, in Bluegrass Fiddle (1st in 2019)\, and in the Youth Division (Honorable Mention in 2018\, and 2nd in 2017). In 2022\, at Clifftop\, Micah placed 3rd in Youth Fiddle and in 2023\, she placed 3rd again. She also plays guitar\, mandolin\, and clawhammer banjo. A graduate of Berklee City Music High School Academy\, Micah is a first year student at Harvard University this year.

SUMMARY:Revolutionary Rum Craft Cocktail Class
DESCRIPTION:During this 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington Commemorative Year\, rum will be the focus of this craft cocktail class. The Inn at Hastings Park’s mixology instructor\, Dipendra Karki leads this hour-and-a-half\, expertly guided craft cocktail class where guests learn the basics of building the perfect rum cocktails. Guests enjoy delicious bar snacks while learning and take away tools to practice the craft at home. What’s included: introduction to various bar tools\, learning measurements and pour counts\, building rum cocktails\, creating creative garnishes\, and introduction to infusions. 6 pm – 7:30 pm – $125/person.

SUMMARY:Voices on the Green: Better Together
DESCRIPTION:In Celebration of Lexington 250\, Voices on the Green will present 4 special shows of storytelling and music with themes that reflect the events of 250 years ago. \nThe First Show—November 22\, 2024—will center on the theme “Better Together\,” focusing on stories and songs of interdependence. \nThe Second Show—April 4\, 2025—will center on the theme “On Our Own” and will focus on stories and songs of independence. \nThe Third and Fourth Shows—November 11\, 2025 and April 11\, 2026—will focus on themes that will emerge during the upcoming celebrations. We invite everyone to attend in person and have sought a grant to make each program available online. \n  \nWhat is Voices on the Green? \nVoices on the Green presents unique evenings of true\, personal stories\, complementary music\, and the opportunity to meet those who make up our community. Since 2017 Voices on the Green has held these evenings at our historic First Parish Church on the Lexington Battle Green. Each one knits the strands of diverse individuals and experiences into a unifying theme. We share the proceeds of each show with a local organization whose values and mission serve Lexington and the surrounding communities. \nWhat will the First Show—on November 22\, 2024—be about? \nReflecting the events of 1775\, when disparate militia and community groups were gathering together to better prepare themselves for what might lie ahead\, this show centers on the theme “Better Together.” We will invite people who live or work in Lexington to share their stories about being better together to celebrate or protest\, to build or dissolve\, to remember or forget\, to invent or recover\, to find joy or escape trauma\, to combat injustice or work for peace. \nIf you have a story to share\, please contact us.
