Discover what happened on the Battle Green with a Colonial Guide!
On this one-hour tour, our expert guide in colonial dress will take you across this National Historic Landmark where “the first blood was spilt in the dispute with Great Britain,” as George Washington wrote in his diary. It is considered consecrated ground, both for the blood that was shed on it and for the militiamen who are interred here.
Highlights include:
- The iconic Henry H. Kitson Minute Man Statue
- The Revolutionary War Monument, a granite obelisk erected in 1799, where the remains of seven militiamen killed in the battle are buried.
- Captain John Parker monument inscribed with: “Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”
- The Old Belfry, which sounded the alarm on April 19, 1775, calling the militia to the Green.
- The Old Burying Ground where Captain John Parker, ministers John Hancock and Jonas Clarke, and an unknown British soldier are buried.
Tour Times and Duration:
- Through November, Battle Green Tours will occur on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
- Additional Battle Green Tours will be occurring on through Thanksgiving week (11/24-11/31) except for Thanksgiving Day (11/27) and the afternoon of Wednesday, 11/26.
- Duration: 1 hour.
- Please arrive early to check in at the front desk for your tour.
