Susi Remold

I am an ecologist and evolutionary biologist by training and inclination, and I have always been fascinated by the ways our environments shape the lives we lead. Working in line and watercolor wash, I focus on small things and brief moments that carry more life and meaning than might first appear. I paint from direct observation and from my own reference photographs taken as I move through daily life, so my work includes paintings of Lexington’s conservation areas, the Minuteman Bikeway, and other familiar local landscapes. I am a member of LexArt and enjoy being part of Lexington’s active creative community.

I also make handmade, interactive artist’s books, where I use biological metaphors to explore more abstract ideas about change, identity, relationships, and resilience. In recent years, as I rebuild my life following a brain injury, questions of how we are transformed when our world is disrupted have become increasingly personal. Through my Gratitude Project, I collaborate with community builders and nonprofits by celebrating their work and donating original art to support their fundraising.
