Lexington’s 2024 Preparations for Lex250
April 17, 2024

In April 2025, Lexington will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington, a historic moment that began the Revolutionary War. This event comes before the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be commemorated in 2026. Lexington is preparing for this big celebration, also known as Lex250, by planning special events in 2024.
What is Lex250?
Lex250 remembers the birth of the United States and the bravery of Lexington citizens during the first battle of the Revolutionary War. On April 19, 1775, 77 members of the Lexington militia fought against 800 British troops on the Lexington Green. While the battle was brief, eight colonists were killed. When the British moved on to Concord, they faced more colonists, eventually leading to an American victory. This battle would change the course of history, as the Revolutionary War ended six years later, beginning America’s full independence in 1781.
When is Lex250?
While the anniversary of the Battle of Lexington is on April 15, 2024, Lex250 will be celebrated with many events throughout 2024 and 2025.
More Lex250 Events in 2024
Lex250 is planning several events in 2024 to prepare the town for its 250th-anniversary celebration. On April 19, 2024, the Lex250 commission will host the “One Year to Go” celebration where the countdown calendar will be unveiled. In the afternoon, there will be a Redcoats-themed scavenger hunt.
On the evening of April 19, 2024, there will be a Countdown to 250 Concert, commemorating the one-year countdown to the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The Lexington Bicentennial Band will collaborate with the Lexington 250 Committee on April 19, 2024. This pre-revolution concert will feature music from the British Isles. While admission is free, donations are welcome.
Saturday, July 15, 2024, on the Battle Green, the Parker’s Prelude will take place. During this event, Lexington will celebrate Captain Parker’s 295th birthday with a giant cake and a kickoff festival with music, activities, and food trucks.
On September 2, 2024, Lexington will have the 200th Anniversary Lafayette Reenactment. At Battle Green, actors will reenact General Lafayette’s 1824 visit.
Lex250 Monument
In December 2023, the Lex250 Commission and Metropolitan Area Planning Council called for artists to develop and present a concept for a monument that would honor the courageous citizens during the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The art piece has a tentative location in Belfry Hill, which is South of historic Lexington Battle Green. In February 2024, the Lex250 Commission selected four artists for the semifinals.
The Lex250 might be more than a year away, but the town of Lexington is already preparing for its arrival. Discover more 2024 events honoring this special day. Make sure to check back here for Lex250 events coming in 2025.
