For those who enjoy live music, the Lexington Pops Chorus combines powerful music and beautiful voices to create fun and memorable performances. 

About the Lexington Pops Chorus

The Lexington Pops Chorus was founded in 1982 by late music director Robert A. Lague; programs are based on the Boston Pops format featuring many genres. 

Their music selection includes classical, jazz, blues, Broadway, folk, and theme concerts like Night at the Opera, American Civil War, and American Composers concerts. The chorus sings folk songs in many languages, including Latin, German, Ladino, Spanish, French, and Hebrew. The Lexington Pops Chorus also performs works from the classical repertoire, including pieces by Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mozart, and Schubert. 

Upcoming Performances for the 2025 Season

On January 17 and 19, 2025, the Lexington Pops Chorus will hold its annual Winter Concert. This concert will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington featuring prominent women composers, their historic influence, and the ongoing struggle for human rights. The music selection will include the following:

  • Our Native Land arranged by Alice Parker 
  • The Storm is Passing Over by Charles Albert Tindley/arr. Barbara W. Baker

  • Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye arranged by Alice Parker
  • Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor by Irving Berlin, with words from Emma Lazarus
  • Lift Every Voice and Sing by John Rosamund Johnson, and arranged by Heather Sorenson
  • America the Beautiful by Samuel A. Ward and Katharine Lee Bates
  • Blow the Candles Out by Gwyneth Walker
  • Until All of Us Are Free by Mark Burrows
  • A Psalm of Praise by Mabel Daniels
  • My Feets Is Tired arranged by Alice Parker 

How to Get Involved with the Lexington Pops Chorus 

Anyone over the age of 18 can join the Lexington Pops Chorus. There is no audition to join, but those who are interested must know how to read music. New potential chorus members are invited to sing with the chorus at the first two rehearsals of the semester. 

Rehearsals are held from 7:30 to 9:30 pm on Tuesday nights from September until the spring concert in mid-May at Clark Hall at Hancock Church on Massachusetts Ave in Lexington, MA. There are dues every year members must pay to the Lexington Pops Chorus. Rates are based on the following:

  • $210/year for new members 
  • $225/year for all other members
  • $115/term, which can be paid in the fall or spring
  • $60/term for students
