Lexington Center Diwali Celebrations

October 15 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Share this post:

Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.

During Diwali, people illuminate their homes, shops, temples, and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps), candles, and lanterns. Diwali marks a major shopping festival in India and is comparable to the Christmas period in terms of consumer purchases and economic activity. It is traditionally a time when families purchase new clothing, home goods, gifts, gold, jewelry, and other large purchases particularly as the festival is dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and such purchases are considered auspicious.

This year, Lexington Together, the Lexington Economic Development Office, and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Diwali “Festival of Lights” Celebration to support retailers and restaurants in Lexington. Please join the celebrations on October 15th, Wednesday between 5 and 9 pm by taking a stroll of the shops in the Center to look at the decorations and a photo booth at 1666 Mass Ave for a special Diwali selfie.
