The Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250), in partnership with MA250 and America250, invites the community to gather on the Lexington Battle Green for a reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8, at 5:45 PM, with the reading beginning at 6:00 PM.

July 8 marks the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. This special event will join communities across the country as the Declaration of Independence is read simultaneously, honoring the ideals, history, and enduring significance of America’s founding document.

The program will take place on the historic Lexington Battle Green and will also be broadcast by LexMedia for those who wish to participate from home. Residents, families, students, veterans, civic organizations, and visitors are encouraged to attend and be part of this meaningful commemoration.

For more information, please visit the Lex250 website. In case of inclement weather, the reading will take place at the Lexington Visitors Center in the Diorama Room.

After the conclusion of the event, join the Association of Black Citizens of Lexington at the Lexington Venue at 7:00 PM for a Screening and Discussion on “The Black Patriots of Lexington – Prince Estabrook.” For more information, please visit the Cary Library’s website.
