The early morning parade goes back to the late 1880s. “Until the end of the century, the celebration included Sunday evening services in Town Hall, historic lectures delivered by scholars, a children’s program, an early morning parade, and band concerts.” I recall the marching in the parade when I was a student in the Lexington Public Schools First with the Girl Scouts and then with the Middle school and High School Bands. There use to be a much larger turn out and we are trying to bring that back and reignite more Town Spirit. Line up will be at 7:15 am with step off at 7:30 am and the ceremony beginning at 8:00 am.
This parade, which kicks off at 7:30am, includes Lexington civic organizations with a special emphasis on youth. Think Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, IAL, CAAL and many others. We also have guests of honor, award recipients Lex Minute Men and LHS band participate.
The Sunrise Youth Parade ends on the Battle Green for the Patriots’ Day Ceremony and the parade participants are all the participants in the Ceremony.
