    On December 13, 1773, three days before the Boston Tea Party, the Lexington Town Meeting concluded a multi-day debate with a resolution to stop purchasing or drinking imported British tea. The crowd spilled out onto the common behind the meeting house and made a bonfire, throwing the entire town's supply of tea into it.

    Taking place during the milestone celebrations of Lexington’s 250th anniversary (Lex250) and the 250th anniversary of the United States, this special evening will be a festive reunion featuring vibrant cultural performances, music, dance, and storytelling that honor Chinese traditions while celebrating the rich diversity and cross-cultural harmony that define Lexington and the American story.

    We will join thousands of people across the country collaborating to make Black history primary research materials more widely available and to celebrate Frederick Douglass’ chosen birthday: Valentine’s Day. This year, the transcriptions will focus on the Colored Conventions Project from the University of Delaware. These state and national conventions, held from the 1830s through Reconstruction, allowed Black abolitionists and leaders to work toward advancing the legal and civil rights of Black Americans in the 19th century and provided opportunities for leaders like Douglass to rise to prominence.
