Cary Memorial Library is the second busiest single library in Massachusetts, with more than a million items loaned each year. Established in 1868, the library’s collection now includes more than 350,000 items across print and digital formats including a rich collection of materials on the Lexington area and the revolutionary period. Digital holdings include the Worthen Collection as well as the Lexington Minuteman newspaper. The library has an extensive permanent art collection and four revolving gallery spaces including the Idea Wall, a 16 foot long by 10 foot high public art space at the heart of the library’s Living Room. The Cary Library Foundation hosts a popular “Library After Dark” series, turning the library into an after-hours performance venue for music and theatrical performances.
