Founded in 1981 in Lexington, the Special Needs Arts Programs, Inc. (SNAP) provides recreational opportunities for people with disabilities that celebrate each person’s unique abilities while cultivating creative expression, building friendships and fostering self-esteem through life-enhancing activities in the arts and music. We offer classes in art and music for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participants perform in semi-annual concerts and display their art at public exhibits. SNAP concerts occur in October and May and are open to the public. The SNAP Sing Along Chorus also performs at community events, including the Lexington MLK Day of Service. SNAP art installations occur year-round in public venues in Lexington. An essential part of our mission is to connect people with disabilities to the larger community, break down barriers between the typically-abled and the disabled, and raise awareness of the contributions people with special needs make to the cultural richness of our community.
