Counting Down to Lex250: 4 Key Lexington Projects

October 23, 2024

As we get closer to Lex250 in April 2025, let’s take a look at how Lexington is continuing to plan for the upcoming celebration. Discover more about four projects, led by the Lex250 Commission, that honor those who fought during the first Battle of the Revolutionary War.

Countdown Calendar

Located right in front of the town office building, this countdown calendar is a collaborative effort that engages local groups to remember Lex250. People from schools, civic organizations, and local businesses around Lexington are selected to flip the days of the calendar, making sure that the countdown stays accurate. This calendar was built to symbolize the passage of time leading to Lex250 while also showing Lexington’s unity and pride.

Riding Through History

Throughout Lexington, there are four hidden horse statues adorned by local artists. These horse sculptures are meant to represent the town’s rich equestrian heritage and creative expression. Residents and visitors alike can embark on a scavenger hunt, strolling through the streets of Lexington to find all four sculptures. During the hunt, participants will be able to learn more about Lexington’s history.

Paul Revere’s Ride Animated Video

Lexington’s Economic Development Office has secured a $48,000 grant through the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism’s MA250th Grant Program. This funding will be put towards creating a looping short-form animated video of Paul Revere’s Ride, which will be located in the diorama room of the Visitors Center. This project is meant to excite visitors and give audiences more knowledge of the American Revolution. The Visitors Center will install the project during the winter months and it will be fully operational before April 2025.

Penny Machine

The Lex250 has sponsored and commissioned the Penny Machine project, located at the Lexington Visitors Center. The machine offers four penny press designs, including a commemorative Lex250 design.

These four projects are meant to reflect on the enduring legacy of the Battle of Lexington and how they made a lasting impression on Lexington and America. To learn more about preparations for Lex250, read our blog
