Start the new year off right by heading to Lexington! Discover three big events happening in this historic town all throughout the month of January. 

Book Chat on King Hancock with Author Brook Barbier

Brook Barbier’s new biography, King Hancock, follows the story of Founding Father John Hancock. While Hancock is often forgotten in the story of the American Revolution, he used his wealth and connections to forge relationships across all levels of society and political affiliations. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, join Barbier to discuss her book and how Hancock became a uniting force during the radical days of the American Revolution. The event will be from 7 pm. to 8 pm at the Munroe Tavern. Ticket prices for the event are $10 for members of the Lexington Historical Society and $15 for non-members. 

Curator’s Tour of Lexington Celebrates! Parades, Pageants, & Pandemonium

As Lexington gets closer to the Lex250 and the 250th Anniversary of the Revolutionary War, the Lexington Historical Society invites the public to join them for a tour of their current exhibit, “Lexington Celebrates! Parades, Pageants, & Pandemonium,” located at the Buckman Tavern. The exhibit examines several anniversary celebrations relating them to the Semiquencitennial. From reenactments, monuments, parades, and ceremonies, Lexington residents have found many ways to celebrate April 19th since 1875. Reserve your spot for this special tour on January 15, 2025, at 6 pm. Ticket prices for the event are $10 for members of the Lexington Historical Society and $15 for non-members. 

Lexington Pops Chorus

On January 17 and 19, 2025, the Lexington Pops Chorus will present “In Her Words: Songs of Courage, Unity, and Freedom.” This concert celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord and features music from famous women composers.

The music collection includes the following songs: 

  • “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” by J. Rosamund Johnson/arr. Heather Sorenson
  • “Goin’ To Boston”, arr. Alice Parker
  • “Until All of Us Are Free” by Mark Burrows/words by Emma Lazarus
  • “I Dream a World” by Rosephanye Powell/words by Langston Hughes
  • “A Psalm of Praise” by Mabel Daniels
  • “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” by Irving Berlin/words by Emma Lazarus
