Our Battle Green 360 Walking Tour offers an engaging, guided walk through the Green and its notable landmarks, bringing this pivotal moment in history to life. Standing on the very ground where it all unfolded, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the people, places, and decisions that shaped April 19, 1775, what George Washington later described as “the first blood…spilt in the dispute with Great Britain.”
A Guided Walk Through the Opening of the Revolution
Led by an expert guide in authentic colonial dress, this one-hour tour invites you to step into Lexington’s Revolutionary past. Through vivid storytelling and thoughtful interpretation, you’ll explore the events leading up to the arrival of British troops and the brave stand of the Lexington militia on this National Historic Landmark.
As you move through the Battle Green, your guide will point out key landmarks that played a role in the events of April 19, 1775. You’ll see the iconic Henry H. Kitson Minute Man Statue, symbolizing the citizen-soldiers who stood their ground; the Revolutionary War Monument, a granite obelisk marking the resting place of seven militia members killed in the battle; and Buckman Tavern, where members of the militia gathered and awaited the British advance.

Additional stops include the Captain John Parker Monument, inscribed with his enduring command to “Stand your ground,” the Old Belfry, which sounded the alarm calling the militia to the Green, and the Old Burying Ground, where Captain Parker, John Hancock, and Lexington minister Jonas Clarke, and an unknown British soldier are buried.
Along the way, your guide will share the perspectives of Lexington residents, helping you better understand the urgency, uncertainty, and courage of that historic morning. These physical landmarks, paired with the stories behind them, bring the Battle Green to life in a meaningful and memorable way.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to Lexington, this walking tour offers essential context that enhances everything else you’ll see and do in town.

A New Layer of Discovery
While the heart of the experience is the guided walk itself, the tour also features a new augmented reality component at select points along the route.
These interactive elements provide visual reconstructions of historic features, including the Women’s Monument – “Something is Being Done,” the Belfry, and the Meeting House that once stood on the Green. It’s a compelling way to briefly step beyond the present-day landscape and visualize Lexington as it was in 1775.
