    Celebrate the 242nd Anniversary of Massachusetts Emancipation Day, aka Quock Walker Day

    Quock Walker was enslaved in Barre, MA. His 1781 civil lawsuit for battery led to the 1783 criminal case that ended slavery in Massachusetts. Venus Roe was enslaved by Jonas Roe in Lexington. At about three years old, she was gifted to Smitheren Reed of Woburn District. Venus Roe was emancipated in the wake of the third Quock Walker case, Commonwealth of Massachusetts v. Nathaniel Jennison.

  • Lexington Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series: Soft Touch Band

    Emery Park Depot Square, Lexington, MA

    Soft Touch is a classic big band with full horn and rhythm sections and two outstanding vocalists. They specialize in swing-era music from the '40s to the '60s, plus Broadway hits and classic rock favorites.

    Their all-volunteer group is comprised of retired professional musicians and serious amateurs. Soft Touch donates engagement fees toward college scholarships to local high school seniors who have excelled in music. To date, over $130,000 has been awarded to talented local students.

  • Fun with Fresh Indigo at LexFarm

    Join us on the farm for a family-friendly workshop all about fresh indigo! We’ll start with a visit to the indigo plants in the fields, where we’ll learn how to harvest fresh indigo. Then, we’ll extract indigo dye in multiple ways on silk and cotton. All materials are provided—just come ready to have fun and get your hands blue! Great for kids (ages 5+), teens, and adults too! All participants under 18 must attend with an adult.  The cost of materials is included in the registration fee.  52 Lowell St, Lexington, in the education tent.
