As we say goodbye to winter, we step right into the warmer and sunnier months of spring. After months of staying cooped up inside, it’s time to enjoy the open air. What better place is there to enjoy the outdoors than in Lexington?

Minuteman Commuter Bikeway

America’s Revolutionary Rail Trail is a perfect location for your jogging, biking, or walking activities. Starting at Alewife station in Cambridge, this bikeway passes through Arlington and Lexington and ends in Bedford.

Along the way, travelers can explore different sites that played an important role during the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Stop by nature sites like Parker Meadow, Tower Park, and Arlington’s Great Meadow.

Arlington’s Great Meadow

Located adjacent to the Minuteman Bikeway is Arlington’s Great Meadow. The 183-acre meadow is the largest piece of undeveloped land in the Lexington and Arlington area. It began as a glacial lake and is now a wet meadow and habitat for wildlife where visitors can participate in recreational activities. This trail is popular for birding, hiking, or more leisurely activities like sitting and reading a book.

Town Conservation Land and Open Space

In Lexington, you’ll find over 1,400 acres of conservation land, with 26 conservation areas and 50 miles of trails. Explore Lexington’s forests, fields, and wetlands that are home to many various plants and animals. There are endless recreational activities to choose from in Lexington’s conservation land like jogging, picnicking, birdwatching, and bicycling.

A group of 230 volunteers, called The Lexington Conservation Stewards, help care for this conservation land through efforts like building bridges and trails, controlling invasive species, cleaning up waterways, and hosting conservation events.

Stone Meadow Golf & Pine Meadows Golf Club

For the avid golfer, check out Lexington’s driving ranges and golf clubs. At Stone Meadow Golf, visitors will find 75 synthetic hitting stations where you can practice your swing. There’s also a Par 3 Course that includes 9 holes that vary from fifty to ninety yards long. Are you interested in improving your golf game? Stone Meadows offers lessons for any level.

Pine Meadows Golf Club is another great local nine-hole public golf course. Like Stone Meadow Golf, Pine Meadows also hosts lessons for any beginner interested in learning more about the sport.

Lexington Field & Garden Club presents “Lexington Gardens Blossom”

For an early celebration of the 250th Anniversary of “the first shot heard around the world,” Lexington Field & Garden Club is holding one of its popular garden tours.

Many of these gardens surround 19th-century homes with their native colorful plants and interesting landscape designs. You don’t want to miss this chance to experience the private worlds that lie behind these antique homes.
