As the days get warmer, now is the perfect time to come to Lexington for an outdoor adventure. And why not bring your furry friend along with you? Lexington offers two different parks perfect for you and your dog to enjoy.

Two Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails in Lexington

Minuteman Commuter Bikeway

The Minuteman Commuter Bikeway is one of Lexington’s most popular rail trails where you can bike, hike, and take a leisurely walk. On this trail, you’ll follow the route Paul Revere rode on horseback in the early morning hours of April 19, 1775. Along the bikeway, you’ll find historic sites like the Lexington Battle Green, the Buckman Tavern, and the Old Burying Ground. Dogs are allowed on the commuter bikeway, but they must be kept on a short leash. You also must pick up after your dog and respect other bikeway users.

Town Conservation Land

Lexington has over 1,400 acres of conservation land that offers over 50 miles of trails. You can explore the forests, fields, and wetlands throughout Lexington with your furry friend! Dogs are welcome at Lexington’s Town Conservation Land under the following conditions:

  • Dogs must be under the immediate restraint and control of a guardian either by leash or sight and voice command
  • At Willard’s Woods, dogs must be leashed on Saturdays and Sundays
  • At Parker Meadow, dogs must be controlled by a leash on all trails marked “Universally Accessible”
  • Dogs must always be leashed in the On-Leash zones at major entryways

Join in Our Annual Purple Puppy Promenade

Every year in June, dog owners and families are invited to dress up their dogs in purple and gather at Hastings Park for a special parade! Families can walk their dogs along Mass Ave and head to Lexington’s agility playing field where they can strut their stuff and perform tricks. This event helps to support the Alzheimer’s Association. While there is no information yet on the 2025 Purple Puppy Promenade, follow us for updates.

Enjoy the outdoors with your furry friend and head to Lexington this spring season!
