A Review of Patriots’ Day 2024: Setting up for Lex250

Lexington celebrated Patriots’ Day 2024 by looking towards the future for Lex250, the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington. On Patriots’ Day, the Lexington Minutemen gathered on the Lexington Battle Green to reenact the famous battle. The Lex250 commission hosted the Countdown to 250 Concert, where the Lexington Bicentennial Band performed music from the British Isles. Then in September, the town hosted the Reenactment of the Marquis de Lafayette 1824 Lexington Visit and Parker’s Prelude Kick-Off festival including Captain Parker’s 295th birthday celebration. The Lex250 Commission has led four key projects throughout the months of 2024 to plan for the upcoming celebration.

Throughout Lexington, there are many places to learn more about its history. For those interested in knowing more about the town’s involvement in the Revolutionary War, tour the famous Lexington sites of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, walk or bike through the Minuteman Bikeway, or even step into the shoes of a Lexington reenactor

Two historic homes set the scene for Battle of Lexington and one home entertained the likes of Marquis de Lafayette and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Lexington’s three major cemeteries also hold significance, as many Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers, veterans, and early town residents were buried in one of them.
